Mulberry bark lace, mulberry thread, various papers made in Vietnam from d 13''x17'' - size of large
The catalog of papers show an organized collection of my field research in 2022. Papers were made in five distinct locations: Hoà Bình, Pà Co, Hà Giang, Bắc Quang, and Huế. Each handmade paper is made from the papermakers within the region and my own studies. Box contains papers and examples of how papermaking fibers can be manipulated into bark lace and spun into thread or cordage.
Moving through the interaction of the box, the viewer can open the box to reveal several Đông Hồ paintings (traditional Vietnamese Folk Prints) that are still printed on dó paper. Dó - is a prennenial tree shrub known as Rhamnoneuron balansae, used in Vietnamese hand papermaking techniques for its durability, strength, and sheen.
